About
Since obtaining a degree in Archaeological Science and an MSc (with distinction) from the University of Bradford, I have been fortunate enough to be continually employed in commercial archaeology. This has allowed me to gain extensive knowledge of and experience in the analysis of human remains, and fostered a particular interest in persuing an holistic approach to the interpretation of our past.
I currently manage a team of human and animal bone specialists for Museum of London Archaeology (I am a member of the Chartered Management Institute). Current commercial work includes analysis of a fascinating post-medieval assemblage from the Royal London Hospital and editing the volume on the Medieval cemetery of St Mary Spital (in prep) amongst others. I have also forged links with several academic partners and am undertaking grant-funded research into venereal syphilis in post-medieval London and the treatment of fractures in the Roman period.
As an experienced forensic archaeologist, I provide specialist advice to the City and Metropolitan Police and co-authored the national standards for forensic archaeology.
I teach undergraduate and post-graduates both osteoarchaeology and forensic archaeology at Birmingham University (where I am an Honorary Research Fellow), City University, London Metropolitan University and Christchurch, Canterbury.
Osteological work has also lead to involvement in several television programmes, including Time Team and the One Show.
